Regional development

While interest in ‘clusters’ may have subsided since the 1990s, most countries nonetheless seek to implement economic policy at a regional level. Regional initiatives often seek to leverage corporate and academic strengths to exploit emerging markets and technologies. We work for Scottish Enterprise, the Welsh Assembly Government and the English RDAs on economic development projects that have a scientific or technological flavour.

Some of our work concerns policy.  What, for example, is the demand for a new science park which is being considered?  What are the emerging opportunities in the medical device sector and how can a region use its universities, hospitals and companies to take advantage of these opportunities?  What new initiatives should be taken to bridge the academic and commercial worlds in order to build new platform technologies?

Other projects concern implementation. We have run programmes to provide companies with practical support in business and technological innovation, and to share skills and promote best practice within sectors.
